Your charging cable deserves to leave the house too!

There are two kinds of people in this world.
People who have a beautifully organised handbag containing precisely six useful objects.
And the rest of us.
The ones carrying three old receipts, sunglasses without a case, a snack we don’t remember buying, approximately eleven hair ties and an emergency charging cable that has somehow tied itself into a maritime knot around the car keys.
This post is for us.
The handbag cable problem
A charging cable at home has a relatively peaceful existence.
It lives beside the bed. Maybe behind a desk. Occasionally somebody pulls it slightly too enthusiastically because their phone is at 2%.
A charging cable in a handbag has seen things.
It’s rolled up. Unrolled. Stuffed into pockets. Yanked out underneath a wallet. Crushed beneath a water bottle. Repeatedly bent at exactly the point manufacturers presumably wish you wouldn’t bend it.
And eventually you pull it out at the airport, café or school pickup to discover that its little plastic neck has split open like it’s trying to hatch.
Excellent.
Exactly what we needed at 9%.
This is where Bunnyproof accidentally became a travel cable
We originally designed Bunnyproof because rabbits kept eating our charging cables.
Very specific problem.
But after creating a flexible metal-armoured cable that could withstand considerably more nonsense than the average cord, we discovered something: humans are also quite hard on cables.
Not usually with our teeth, admittedly.
The same metal exterior that makes Bunnyproof harder for curious pets to damage also makes it incredibly handy for the places ordinary cables tend to get beaten up — handbags, backpacks, suitcases, cars and everyday carry.
So even if your household contains precisely zero rabbits, there’s a fairly good argument for keeping one in your bag.
One for the handbag
This is perhaps our favourite non-bunny use.
Throw it in - that’s basically the system.
The flexible metal exterior means you don’t have to carefully coil it into a perfect little circle and secure it with an artisanal leather cable organiser before you’re permitted to leave the house.
It can live amongst the sunglasses, lip balm, snacks, keys and inexplicable loose coin population.
And because Bunnyproof actually looks nice, pulling a rose-gold cable out of your handbag doesn’t have quite the same aesthetic as producing the grubby white cord you’ve owned since 2018.
Small luxuries.
One for the car
The car is another place where charging cables go to suffer.
They fall between seats.
They get stepped on.
Someone closes the centre console on them.
A passenger borrows one and returns it in a configuration previously unknown to geometry.
And when you actually need one, you’re already running late and your phone has decided that 14% battery is the perfect time to start navigating somewhere you’ve never been before.
Keeping a dedicated Bunnyproof cable in the car means one less thing to remember.
Plug it in. Leave it there. Let it live its little car-cable life.
And one for your suitcase
There is a special kind of confidence involved in arriving at a hotel after a long travel day and realising your only charging cable is still plugged into the wall beside your bed.
We cannot engineer our way out of that one. What we can recommend is owning more than one.
One beside the bed, one in your everyday bag, one in the car or travel kit.
Suddenly you’re no longer transporting the same increasingly exhausted cable around your entire life like it’s a family heirloom.
It’s also exactly why bundling cables actually makes sense. You’re not buying three because your phone has suddenly developed three charging ports. You’re giving the places you regularly need power their own cable.
And future-you, standing beside the car with 6% battery, is going to be extremely pleased with present-you.
Built for bunnies. Surprisingly good at humans.
Bunnyproof began in Auckland, New Zealand in 2019 because we wanted to solve a very rabbit-specific problem.
After around a year of trial, error and product development, we landed on the flexible metal-armoured cables we use today.
Years later, we’ve realised that the thing that makes them useful around mischievous pets also makes them useful around mischievous handbags, chaotic cars, overstuffed suitcases and ordinary human life.
No bunny required.
Although obviously they’re welcome.
Bunnyproof. The cable built to survive real life.
